Together with the Tour de France, the port city will hold L’Étape Rotterdam by Tour de France in the run-up to a dream new Grand Départ. It will be a timed cyclosportive on a closed course for the ultimate Tour de France feeling. Real racing without the need for a race permit. Race against one another with the same rules as the pros. Whoever crosses the line first wins. The ‘real’ Tour de France jerseys are handed out after the finish.
Wind and gravel
What makes L’Étape Rotterdam by Tour de France in the Rotterdam region different from, for example, a ride through the French Alps, is the unpredictable wind, the bridges and multiple stretches of gravel. Those who are not used to riding in echelons have no chance of taking the yellow jersey at the finish line in Rotterdam.
Families, kids and cycling tourists
The well-known Tour de Rotterdam fundraising tours are now called L’Étape Rotterdam by Tour de France Charity Rides. These are for everyone. Young, old, trained and untrained. Companies can also participate, inviting employees and/or business relations. These rides consist of several distances, 25, 45, 80, 105 and 125 kilometres. Along the way, participants can count on a well-cared-for break to take a breather or have their bicycle repaired. It’s also possible to join the peloton ride with a distance of 120 kilometres. This ride is guided by motorbikes and team cars.

Village Départ
A “Village Départ” will be built by the start location along the Rotterdam The Hague Airport runway. It will be accessible to everyone, young and old, from novice to experienced cyclists. Not only will the starting gun go off here, but various Tour heroes will also be present. Several brands will show off the latest bikes and handy gadgets and give even more cycling tips. There are also workshops, demonstrations, competitions and samplings of sports nutrition products. In short: everything for a fun and sporty day in the city of Rotterdam and the region.

The race, the only cyclosportive on the Dutch calendar
The highlight of L’Étape Rotterdam by Tour de France on Saturday 16 July is a cyclosportive or Gran Fondo, 135 kilometres on a closed course with timekeeping, so you can experience the ultimate Tour de France feeling. It’s your chance to really race without the need for a licence. Compete against each other on a closed course with the rules that apply to the pros. At the finish line, just like in a cycling race, whoever crosses the line first wins. After the finish, the different Tour de France jerseys are actually distributed.
